Ex-presidential candidate expelled by Accord party, gives reason

The Accord Party (AP) has expelled its former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, over alleged serious misconduct, following a decision made by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, November 20.

Imumolen, who represented the Accord Party in the 2023 presidential race, was removed along with seven state chairpersons, including Lanre Ogundare from Lagos and Surajo Ibrahim from Zamfara.

Altogether, ten members, including former chairpersons from Ekiti, Ondo, and Yobe states, faced expulsion over similar accusations.

A communiqué released after the NEC meeting stated that these disciplinary actions were based on findings by a seven-member investigative committee.

The committee reported constitutional violations involving factionalism, anti-party activities, and behaviour that brought disrepute to the party.

“The NEC unanimously approved disciplinary measures against certain members for serious misconduct,” the communiqué stated, highlighting that such actions had created division and weakened party cohesion.

“The NEC stressed the importance of strict adherence to the party’s constitution and called for unity to maintain order.

The NEC also expressed its full support for Maxwell Mgbudem’s leadership, encouraging him to continue efforts to solidify the party’s foundation.

“The Accord Party is dedicated to rebuilding, rebranding, and enhancing its strength to better serve Nigerians,” the communiqué said, also announcing plans for a major membership drive to expand the party’s democratic influence.
