The Ondo State Government is considering an electric bus transport scheme in Akure, with projected monthly commuting costs expected to drop from about ₦9,000 to between ₦5,000 and ₦6,000 per passenger. The proposed initiative, to be developed by an information technology firm, ADMINSERV, will initially deploy five electric buses, with plans to expand the fleet to 150 if the pilot phase proves successful. Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has renamed the International Centre for Culture and Events, popularly known as The Dome, in Akure, after his predecessor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko. The governor announced the decision on Saturday during a birthday celebration organised in honour of the former governor in Abuja. The facility will henceforth be known as the Dr Olusegun Mimiko International Centre for Culture and Events. Three employees of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Ibadan, Oyo State, have regained their freedom six days after they were abducted by gunmen, following a reported N50m ransom payment. The victims, identified as Eunice Babalola, Kehinde Gbalajobi and Nelson, were reportedly released early on Wednesday after being held captive since last Thursday. They were said to have been abducted at about 1pm while inspecting crops on a farm within the institute’s premises.
