A Magistrates’ Court in Jos has sentenced a 32-year-old printer, Odunayo Awe, to two years in prison for stealing a laptop from a bank.
The presiding magistrate, Shawomi Bokkos, delivered a summary judgment after the convict pleaded guilty to the charge. The court, however, offered Awe an option of a N150,000 fine as an alternative to serving the full prison term.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, the case was reported by the complainant, Sunday Yuhana, at the “C” Division Police Station on February 3. Gokwat told the court that Awe had entered the bank premises and stolen a laptop worth N520,000 before he was apprehended.
