The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the upcoming November 16, 2024 election in Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has denied reports suggesting he has defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday in Akure and signed by Ajayi alongside eight other PDP leaders in the state, the report of his alleged defection was described as false and misleading.
The statement, released by Bakitta Bello, Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ondo State, clarified that no coalition or political alignment has been initiated by either the state or national leadership of the PDP.
“We recognize that recent media reports and political movements have stirred confusion among members.
However, we affirm that the PDP remains united, strong, and focused in Ondo State,” the statement read.
It further stated that the party is committed to its mission of rescuing, rebuilding, and repositioning Nigeria and Ondo State through the democratic process.
The leaders urged PDP members to remain steadfast and ignore misleading narratives, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies not in temporary alliances but in the dedication of its members.
“We remind everyone that PDP is more than a political party—it is a movement rooted in hope, democracy, and good governance. Our structures remain intact across all 203 wards and 18 local government areas of the state,” the statement added.
Those who signed the statement alongside Ajayi include: Senator Bode Olajumoke and Eddy Olafeso (Board of Trustees members), Debo Ologunagba (National Publicity Secretary), Clement Faboyede (NEC member), Olajide Oguntodu (Minority Leader, Ondo State House of Assembly), Ladi Omotehinse (Chairman, Forum of PDP LG Chairmen), Bakkita Bello (State Caretaker Committee Chairman), and Oluseye Olujimi (Secretary, State Caretaker Committee).
