The Kogi State Government has announced that a woman recently rescued from kidnappers has given birth to twin girls at the state’s Internally Displaced Persons camp.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this on Monday, noting that the identity of the mother was being protected for security reasons.

Fanwo said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had ordered that the woman and her newborns be moved without delay to the State Specialist Hospital for proper medical care.

According to him, the governor directed the State Security Adviser and the Commissioner for Health to ensure the immediate transfer of the mother and her babies to enable them receive thorough medical examination and postnatal attention.

He added that both the mother and the twins are in stable condition.

The government explained that the IDP camp was set up as a temporary rehabilitation facility where victims rescued from kidnappers are provided medical treatment, psychosocial support and other forms of assistance before being reunited with their families.

It further stated that ongoing security operations across the state have led to a steady rise in the number of rescued victims currently receiving care at the facility.

Reaffirming its resolve to prioritise the welfare and reintegration of victims, the state government commended security agencies for what it described as sustained progress in tackling criminal activities in Kogi.
