Two women, Aishat Akinola, 44, and Modupe Adeoluwa, 47, were on Thursday arraigned before a Mapo Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over alleged conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The defendants, who reside in the same neighbourhood, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Inspector Seye Akinola, told the court that the incident occurred at about noon on March 25 in the Oje area of the Oyo State capital.

He alleged that the women engaged in a public altercation, during which they shouted at each other and caused a disturbance in the area.

Akinola further informed the court that both defendants accused each other of child abduction while creating tension within the community.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Victoria Olorioke, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

The case was adjourned until April 23 for hearing.
