The Oyo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of an unidentified teenage boy discovered at the swimming pool of the University of Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed in a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday that the remains had been deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital Adeoyo.
Ayanlade explained that detectives who visited the scene observed bloodstains within the pavilion area, while the deceased was found with blood coming from the mouth and nose, alongside minor bruises around the nose.
He noted that the case is being treated as a suspected homicide, adding that a comprehensive investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to him, the command received a report from the institution’s Chief Security Officer on March 26, indicating that the body of a boy, believed to be between 14 and 15 years old, was seen floating on the surface of the swimming pool.
Upon arrival, detectives found that the body had already been removed from the pool and placed beside it.
Items believed to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were recovered near the scene.
The police spokesperson stated that the victim was taken to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival before being deposited at the mortuary.
The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information, assuring that efforts were ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the death.
