A 10-year-old girl was reportedly shot when suspected gunmen abducted a businessman, identified as Wasiu Aleshinloye, in the Irawo area of Ago-Are, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, saying the victim was kidnapped by three armed men who allegedly trailed him from a market to his residence before whisking him away.

According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the abduction was reported at the Tede Division around 10:20 p.m. on Monday.

He explained that preliminary findings revealed that the assailants monitored Aleshinloye’s movement from Kraal Market in Ago-Are to his filling station in Irawo and later followed him to his residence, where they carried out the attack.

Olayinka disclosed that the gunmen abducted the businessman at gunpoint and fled to an unknown destination.

During the incident, a 10-year-old girl, Modinat Aleshinloye, sustained gunshot injuries.

The police spokesperson said the child was immediately rushed to a hospital, where she received medical attention and underwent extraction of pellets from her body.

He added that detectives who visited the scene recovered three expended ammunition shells and three face caps believed to have been used by the attackers.

The command noted that tactical and intelligence-led operations were ongoing to rescue the abducted victim and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
