Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested a suspected member of a kidnapping syndicate while allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom money at a Point-of-Sale terminal in Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Muhamodu Sanni, was apprehended around the Obudu/Woru axis following an intelligence-driven investigation into the abduction of three persons in Obudu Village.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday through the command’s X handle.
According to the PPRO, the victims were abducted on July 28, 2026, when armed men invaded the community.
She said rather than concentrate solely on the scene of the attack, the police expanded their investigation to the communication, logistics and financial activities believed to be supporting the criminal group.
The approach reportedly paid off when investigators traced a ransom transaction to Sanni, who was intercepted at a POS terminal while allegedly trying to withdraw the money.
The statement said the suspect cooperated with investigators during interrogation and provided information about his alleged role in the collection of ransom.
Sanni also reportedly identified two other suspected members of the group, simply named as Aminu and Umar.
The police said the information obtained from the suspect had strengthened their understanding of the syndicate and provided further leads for ongoing operations.
The command said the development was part of its intelligence-led efforts to dismantle kidnapping networks and disrupt their sources of funding and logistics.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, assured residents that the command would continue to pursue criminal elements and prevent them from operating freely in the state.
He also appealed to members of the public to support the police by providing timely and credible information that could assist in tracking criminal activities.
