The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four men over an alleged plot to assassinate a businessman and take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37, were apprehended at different locations in Ukwulu and Amichi on Wednesday.

The arrests followed intelligence gathered by the police regarding the alleged plot, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga.

Ikenga said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in collaboration with Agunechemba security personnel attached to Amichi and Nnewi.

He said the arrests were made after security operatives acted on credible intelligence concerning the alleged plan.

Two firearms and live ammunition were reportedly recovered from the suspects during the operation.

Ikenga said the arrests were part of efforts by the command to prevent violent crimes and protect lives and property across the state.

The police spokesman said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged assassination plot and determine the roles played by the suspects.

The command also assured residents that security operatives would continue to act on credible intelligence to prevent criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents and their property.
