A commercial cyclist, Nura Yusuf, who had been missing for several weeks, has been found dead inside an uncompleted building in the Federal Capital Territory.
Yusuf’s decomposing body was discovered around the Gas Pipeline area of Unguwar Sabo-Tasha, along the Abaji-Gwagwalada Road, after residents reportedly noticed a foul smell emanating from the abandoned structure.
The deceased, a native of Bagwa Local Government Area of Kano State, was said to have picked up passengers heading towards the Gas Pipeline area before he reportedly went missing.
A close friend of the deceased, Ibrahim Baba, who confirmed the incident, said some farmers on their way to their farms discovered the body on Saturday.
According to him, the farmers were drawn to the building by the stench before moving closer and discovering the decomposed remains.
He said Yusuf had been declared missing weeks earlier and efforts to reach him on his telephone had proved unsuccessful.
Baba said the police were immediately notified after the discovery, prompting officers to visit the scene.
He added that the deceased, who lived in Abaji town, was survived by his pregnant wife.
A police source at the Abaji Division, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the discovery.
The source explained that the body had decomposed considerably by the time officers arrived at the location, making it impossible to move it from the scene.
“Upon the arrival of policemen at the scene, the body had already decomposed, so the corpse was buried at the scene,” the source said.
The circumstances surrounding Yusuf’s disappearance and death were not immediately clear, while the discovery has raised concerns over the safety of commercial cyclists operating in the area.
