The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ondo State Sector Command, has decorated 176 personnel recently promoted across various ranks, with a charge to improve their commitment to road safety operations.
The personnel, comprising 50 senior officers and 126 marshals, were decorated during a ceremony held in Akure on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, the Ondo State Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, said the promotions should be viewed as an increase in responsibility rather than merely an advancement in rank.
He urged the newly promoted personnel to demonstrate greater diligence and professionalism in the discharge of their duties, stressing that their elevation was intended to strengthen the corps’ operations and improve service delivery to the public.
Ibitoye said, “To whom much is given, much is expected, so that the corps will have better performance, especially on the highways.”
He explained that among the senior officers, five were promoted from Chief Route Commander to Assistant Corps Commander, while seven moved from Superintendent Route Commander to Chief Route Commander.
He added that seven personnel advanced from Route Commander to Superintendent Route Commander, 18 from Deputy Route Commander to Route Commander and 13 from Assistant Route Commander to Deputy Route Commander.
According to the sector commander, 126 marshals were also promoted across various ranks.
He charged all personnel to intensify their efforts in road safety advocacy, enforcement, engineering audits and collaboration with members of the public in a bid to reduce road traffic crashes across the state.
Ibitoye also encouraged personnel who were not promoted in the latest exercise to remain committed to their duties and improve their performance, noting that dedication and effectiveness would contribute to future career advancement.
He said the ultimate objective was to ensure that every member of the corps contributed meaningfully to reducing highway crashes and improving operational efficiency.
A former FRSC Corps Commander, Michael Adigun, urged the newly promoted personnel to sustain high standards of performance and professionalism.
Adigun said continued career advancement would require hard work, vigilance and a commitment to assisting motorists and other road users.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, ACC Opeyemi Adigun expressed appreciation to the FRSC for recognising their efforts and dedication.
He pledged that the newly promoted personnel would reciprocate the confidence reposed in them through renewed commitment to their duties and greater dedication to serving humanity and the nation.
