Nigerian Army troops have dismantled a Boko Haram/ISWAP camp in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing more than 21 suspected terrorists in the operation.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Wednesday, was conducted by troops of Operation Hadin Kai in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser Tactical Team.

The military said the assault followed intelligence reports on the activities of terrorists operating in the mountainous area.

According to the Army, the troops encountered the terrorists twice during the operation and neutralised more than 21 of them, while others reportedly fled with gunshot injuries.

Several weapons and other items were recovered or destroyed during the operation, including AK 47 rifles, magazines and a quantity of ammunition.

The troops also destroyed motorcycles, bicycles and containers believed to have been used to store fuel for the terrorists’ activities.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue persons abducted from Mussa community and the Lassa area.

Goni said the military would sustain intelligence driven operations aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts, disrupting their logistics and weakening their ability to carry out attacks.

He added that search and rescue efforts had been intensified to locate and bring back all persons still held by the terrorists.

The military high command commended the troops and the ONSA Tactical Team for their coordination, professionalism and resilience during the operation.

It said the latest operation demonstrated the ability of the security forces to penetrate difficult terrain and deny terrorists freedom of movement and action.
