A suspected cult member, identified as Damola, has reportedly died after collapsing while attempting to evade arrest by the police in the Kajola area of Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred on Sunday after Damola and other suspected members of a cult group allegedly ambushed a resident in the community.
It was gathered that the victim had previously reported a threat to his life to the police, prompting security operatives to act on intelligence concerning the alleged attack.
According to a counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the police moved into the area after receiving information that the man had been ambushed by suspected cultists.
During the operation, the police reportedly arrested one of the suspects, identified as Oluwatimileyin Daniel, while other members of the group fled in an attempt to escape arrest.
Damola was said to have collapsed while running away from the operatives. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital for treatment but reportedly died later.
The incident reportedly caused tension in the community, with security personnel increasing their presence in the area to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order.
