A 67-year-old woman, Titilayo Alagbado, and a 40-year-old man, Alex Olaiya, have been arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly giving false information and tampering with evidence in a murder investigation.

The defendants, both residents of Ajoda New Town, Ibadan, in the Egbeda Local Government Area of the state, were arraigned on a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, destruction of evidence, giving false information, forgery and receiving proceeds allegedly linked to criminal activities.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Olagoke Adegbenro, alleged that Alagbado conspired with others on August 19 to pervert the course of justice, destroy evidence and make false statements to the police.

Adegbenro further alleged that the defendant deleted messages exchanged between her and her son, Folawiyo Alagbado, from her mobile phone to prevent the messages from being used as evidence against him in connection with the alleged murder of Tolulope Adejumo.

The prosecutor also alleged that Alagbado falsely told the police that she last saw her son in 2025 and that he was residing in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, despite allegedly knowing the information to be untrue.

In a separate allegation, Adegbenro told the court that Olaiya, between 2020 and August 2026, forged a sworn affidavit relating to a change of engine number of a Toyota Camry, allegedly transferring it from his name to another person in an attempt to frustrate investigation into the vehicle’s actual ownership.

The prosecutor further alleged that Olaiya gave false information that he owned Toyota Camry vehicles with registration numbers Abuja RBC 907 JS and Lagos LSR 267 HP, which he allegedly knew to be untrue.

Adegbenro also accused Olaiya of receiving large sums of money through his Fidelity Bank account number 6170687880, UBA account number 2032806713 and Wema Bank account number 0418860287 without legitimate evidence of income.

He told the court that investigations allegedly revealed that the funds belonged to Folawiyo and were concealed by Olaiya.

The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 465 and were punishable under Sections 123, 126(1), 125, 125A, 127, 467 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1m each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Sanusi ordered that one of the sureties for each defendant must bear the same surname as the defendant, while the other surety must possess a valid international passport.

The magistrate adjourned the case until October 27, 2026, for hearing.
