A motorcyclist has been killed after a sand-laden tipper truck reportedly rammed into a motorcycle at Ilasa Bus Stop, inward Mile 2, Lagos State.

The accident occurred at about 3:18pm on Thursday and involved a tipper truck marked 19F 992FG and the motorcycle, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.

The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed the incident in a statement, saying the agency’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was mobilised to the scene following a distress call.

He said the emergency responders arrived about 15 minutes later and found the crash involving the tipper truck and motorcycle.

A preliminary assessment indicated that the tipper driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the motorcycle from behind.

Oke-Osanyintolu said an adult male passenger on the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

“Tragically, an adult male passenger on the motorcycle lost his life as a result of the collision,” he stated.

LASEMA responders, paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and policemen subsequently took control of the scene.

The deceased’s remains were recovered by the emergency responders and handed over to family members who were present at the scene.

The damaged tipper truck and motorcycle were later removed from the road and taken to the Ilasamaja Police Station to facilitate further investigation into the crash.

Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and urged motorists, particularly drivers of articulated vehicles, to exercise caution and comply with traffic regulations.
