A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested after allegedly posing as his father to sit for a promotion examination meant for the older man, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.

Monsuru was apprehended on Wednesday, the third day of the promotion examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

He was reportedly caught by security personnel deployed to the examination venue at the National Open University of Nigeria premises.

During questioning, Monsuru allegedly told security officials that his father, Musa Mohammed, was ill and unable to appear for the examination.

He reportedly added that his father had instructed him to take the test on his behalf.

However, the suspect allegedly gave conflicting information about his father’s age, initially claiming that Mohammed was between 67 and 68 years old.

The father reportedly gave a different account, telling security officials that he would clock 60 in February 2027.

Mohammed also disclosed that he completed his primary education in 1977 and secondary school in 1982.

Following the incident, the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after they had made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services.

The authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine further action against the two men.
