A 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, has been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command for allegedly killing her newborn son with a razor blade in Abuja.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory, where the infant’s lifeless body was discovered in a bush on October 4, 2026.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
According to Adeh, the police received a distress call concerning an abandoned baby and immediately deployed operatives from the Jabi Police Division to the scene.
She said the officers recovered the body of a male infant with deep wounds on the throat and abdomen and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered an investigation and directed operatives to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Adeh said the police, assisted by members of the community, traced and arrested Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who resides in the Daki-Biu/Jabi area of Abuja.
The PPRO said preliminary investigation showed that Yohanna was the mother of the deceased and had given birth to him inside her room on October 3, a day before the infant’s body was discovered.
She alleged that the suspect subsequently used a razor blade to inflict the fatal injuries on the newborn.
Adeh added that Yohanna reportedly confessed to the killing, claiming that she committed the act because of her hatred for the baby’s father.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, while the command said she would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
Sanusi condemned the incident, describing it as a grave violation of human life, and commended members of the community for helping the police apprehend the suspect.
