The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Dare Omoyajowo, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl with hearing and speech impairment in Are-Ekiti.

The corps’ Head of Communications, Adeleye Adewale, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the arrest followed a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother at the Amotekun office in the town.

According to the statement, the girl returned home in distress and was able to explain what had happened to her through sign language, prompting her mother to alert security operatives.

Amotekun officers from the Ifedara Local Council Development Area were subsequently mobilised and tracked down the suspect, who was taken into custody for questioning.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to the act and told operatives that he had lured the girl into his apartment using gestures before committing the offence.

Adewale said the suspect has been transferred to the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and prosecution.

The Amotekun Corps reiterated its commitment to protecting minors and vulnerable persons in the state, warning that offenders would be tracked down and brought to justice.

The agency also recalled that earlier this month, it arrested another suspect in Ilawe-Ekiti over the alleged rape of a seven-year-old girl, adding that the corps would continue to intensify surveillance and community engagement to prevent such crimes.
