The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State on Wednesday received the resignation of its Publicity Secretary, Oyeniyi Iwakun, who stepped down in a letter dated December 31, 2025.

Iwakun addressed his resignation to the Chairman of Aye Ward 2 and copied the correspondence to key party officials at state and national levels, including the Acting State Secretary, the State Chairman, the National Secretary and the National Chairman, underscoring the formal nature of his departure.

In the brief letter, the former party spokesman did not give specific reasons for his decision but said the move was taken respectfully and in good faith. He expressed gratitude to the party leadership and members for the opportunity to serve and for their cooperation during his tenure.

As publicity secretary, Iwakun played a visible role in articulating the SDP’s positions on governance and political matters in Ondo State, often speaking for the party on local developments. His exit is therefore viewed by political watchers as a notable shift in the party’s communications team.

The SDP state leadership had not issued an official response to the resignation as of press time. Political analysts say the development could affect the party’s organisational dynamics ahead of forthcoming electoral contests and may trigger a prompt search for a replacement to handle public relations and media affairs.

More details about Iwakun’s future political plans and the party’s arrangement for filling the vacancy are expected to emerge in the coming days.
