The Kwara State Police Command on Saturday confirmed the arrest of three people following a suspected arson attack that gutted a residential building in the Isale Koko area of Ilorin, the state capital.

In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the fire was reported to officers at C Division, Oja Oba, on January 2 at about 10pm by the house owner, Mrs T. A. Olorisha.

The victim told police the blaze occurred on January 1 at about 7pm while she was away from home.

The police noted a video circulating online that shows an elderly woman claiming her home was completely razed.

Investigation into the incident has since begun, with investigators treating the fire as a suspected case of arson.

Mrs Olorisha alleged she had been the subject of threats in November 2025 from some neighbours because she is a traditional worshipper.

The names given to police were Alhaji Salihu Saka, 63; Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, 58; and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele, 67. The three men are now in custody and are assisting the ongoing probe, SP Ejire-Adeyemi said.

No one was inside the building when the fire broke out, and there were no fatalities, the police added. The value of the property lost to the blaze has not yet been determined.

The command pledged to continue efforts to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly involved, and said all leads were being thoroughly pursued.

It also reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives, property and the rights of all citizens, regardless of religious or cultural background.

Members of the public were urged to remain calm and to provide any information that could help investigators bring other suspects to justice.
