The Ondo State Police Command has taken into custody a 55 year old man, Ademola Joshua, in connection with an alleged sexual abuse case involving a 15 year old girl in Ilara Mokin area of the state.

The police said the arrest followed a complaint by a resident, Adewale, who reported that his niece became pregnant under suspicious circumstances. Subsequent inquiries, according to the command, linked the pregnancy to the suspect.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the matter was immediately transferred to the Gender Based Violence Unit for a careful and confidential investigation.

He said the suspect is currently being detained while investigators conclude their work, after which he will be taken before a court of law.

The police assured the public that the rights and welfare of women and children remain a top priority for the command and that offenders involved in sexual crimes will not be shielded from justice.

Jimoh noted that the arrest reflects the reform efforts of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, aimed at strengthening accountability and improving the police response to sexual and domestic crimes nationwide.

He also praised members of the community for speaking up and urged residents to continue reporting cases of abuse and violence for timely intervention.

The command reaffirmed its resolve to promote public safety and protect vulnerable members of society through proactive policing and community partnership.
