Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have apprehended three suspected armed robbers during a routine patrol in Ibadan, recovering a toy pistol and several mobile phones from their possession.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the suspects were intercepted along Awolowo Road, Bodija, on Monday, April 6, around 12:30 pm.

According to the statement, the suspects, riding a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BDJ 386 QH, were identified as Godwin Cletus, 26; Adedokun Isah, 17; and Rafiu Usman, 19—all residents of Gbaremu area in Ibadan.

“A thorough search led to the recovery of a toy pistol hidden in a black bag, alongside six mobile phones,” the police said. “The discovery raised suspicion of their involvement in criminal activities, prompting their immediate arrest.”

DSP Ayanlade added that the suspects admitted to robbing unsuspecting members of the public, dispossessing them of valuables.

Their confessions have reportedly provided critical leads for ongoing investigations aimed at dismantling their network.

The suspects are now in custody as a full-scale investigation continues to determine the extent of their operations and identify other possible accomplices.

The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

In a related development, the Imo State Police Command last Monday arrested two armed robbery suspects in Owerri, recovering a pump-action rifle and a stolen motorcycle, underscoring the growing efforts of law enforcement agencies in tackling violent crime nationwide.
