‘I want divorce’ – Husband accuses wife of disobedience, neglect

A man identified as Abdullahi has approached the Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking the dissolution of his marriage over allegations of persistent misconduct by his wife, Adesola.

Abdullahi told the court that his wife was irresponsible, untidy, disobedient and quarrelsome, adding that her behaviour had made the marriage unbearable.

According to him, Adesola consistently neglected household responsibilities, leaving their home in a dirty and disorderly state.

He alleged that despite repeated efforts to correct her, she refused to change and often responded with arguments and confrontations.

The plaintiff further accused his wife of ignoring his instructions, claiming she frequently left the house without informing him and returned whenever she wished.

He also alleged that although the couple had not been blessed with children, Adesola refused to pray or make efforts toward resolving their childlessness, describing her as an unbeliever.

Abdullahi told the court that the marriage began in 2017 after their parents brought them together, noting that no bride price was paid.

“I regret marrying her. She lacks the qualities of a responsible wife. She refuses to listen to advice, neglects the home and constantly leaves the house untidy. Whenever I correct her, she picks a fight with me,” he said.

He added that he no longer found happiness in the union and appealed to the court to formally dissolve the marriage.

The defendant, Adesola, was absent from the proceedings despite reportedly being served with hearing notices.

After listening to the plaintiff’s testimony, the President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the matter for judgment.
