AAUA-ASUU calls off strike after members receive outstanding salaries

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko branch, has officially suspended its industrial action following the payment of salary arrears owed to its members.

The decision came shortly after academic and non-academic workers of the Ondo State-owned university began receiving their outstanding salaries through the ₦1.1 billion intervention fund approved by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the university’s ASUU chapter, Prof. Bolu Oshodi, said the union resolved to end the strike because the principal issue that led to the action had been addressed.

Oshodi disclosed that the payment of the outstanding May and June salaries had paved the way for lecturers to return to work, with normal academic activities expected to resume immediately.

“Our members have received the outstanding salaries for May and June. Since the demand that necessitated the strike has been met, the union has suspended the industrial action,” he said.

While expressing appreciation for the intervention that made the payment possible, the ASUU chairman urged the Ondo State Government to ensure regular funding of the institution and prompt payment of salaries to prevent future disruptions to the university’s academic calendar.
