A technical employee of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company has been hospitalised after suffering an electric shock while carrying out maintenance work on a power facility in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday in the Ado Poly Satellite Campus area, where the employee, identified as Akinyemi Bamidele, was working on the 11kV Basiri Feeder after scheduled maintenance operations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company’s Head of Branding and Corporate Communications, Evelyn Gbiwen, said the linesman sustained burns to his arm and other parts of his body following the electrical accident.

She explained that the injured worker was immediately rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, for medical attention.

According to the company, Bamidele is in stable condition and responding positively to treatment.

Gbiwen said BEDC remained committed to the safety and welfare of its workforce and was providing the necessary support to the injured employee during his recovery.

She added that the company had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, assuring that appropriate actions would be taken after the probe is concluded.
