‘I followed another woman, she never forgave me’ — Man announces separation after five years

A Nigerian man, Ebikedoumene Bonny Jeff, has announced his separation from his wife, Yinlayefa, citing years of unresolved disagreements, emotional strain and marital challenges.

Jeff made the announcement in a Facebook post on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the date that would have marked the couple’s fifth wedding anniversary.

Recounting their journey, Jeff said their relationship began in 2008 when they were dating in their village. The couple later welcomed a daughter in 2011.

He described his estranged wife as caring, humble and supportive, particularly during a period when he struggled financially.

According to him, Yinlayefa supported the family while he was at university and later secured employment at the Federal University, Otuoke.

Jeff said she shouldered household expenses and continued to support him until he eventually secured employment in 2019.

He said the couple subsequently got married on August 8, 2021.

However, Jeff said their marriage was later confronted by painful experiences, including the loss of a child following a pregnancy shortly after their wedding.

He also disclosed that his wife had become pregnant three times while he was still a student, but said he had asked her to terminate the pregnancies because of their financial difficulties at the time.

According to him, the couple’s unresolved grievances eventually became a major source of tension in their relationship.

Jeff also admitted that he once followed another woman on social media, an action he said his wife struggled to forgive despite his repeated apologies.

He said the incident remained a sore point in their marriage and contributed to the growing distance between them.

The man said their relationship gradually deteriorated as affection, communication and mutual support declined, resulting in prolonged disagreements and what he described as a “silence battle.”

Jeff further alleged that tensions during the troubled period led to threats from his wife, although he did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the claims.

He said the situation eventually became unbearable and that both parties agreed that separation was the best option for their future.

Announcing the decision on what would have been their fifth anniversary, Jeff said neither party should lose their life because of marital problems.

He described marriage as something that should not become a matter of life and death.

Despite the collapse of the relationship, Jeff acknowledged his estranged wife’s sacrifices and contributions throughout their years together.

He prayed for her protection and prosperity, while describing her as a significant figure in his life.

Reflecting on their separation, Jeff said their journey had come to an end but that he would continue with his life carrying memories of their time together.

He maintained that the decision to separate was reached because both parties believed it offered a better path forward.
