MTN Nigeria has warned its subscribers against fraudulent online offers claiming to provide 25GB of free data as part of the telecommunications company’s 25th anniversary celebration.
The company urged customers to disregard suspicious links and platforms offering the purported giveaway, stressing that the genuine promotion could only be accessed through its authorised channels.
MTN issued the warning on Saturday through its customer support account on X, advising subscribers against disclosing personal information or making payments to anyone claiming to facilitate the anniversary data offer.
The telecom giant said the authentic 25GB anniversary giveaway was available exclusively on the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.
It stated, “Please beware of fake MTN 25th Anniversary 25GB giveaway offers circulating online.
“The official MTN 25GB Anniversary Giveaway is available ONLY via the MyMTN NG App and MTN eShop.
“Do not click on links, share your personal information or make payments on any other platform claiming to offer the giveaway.”
The company also provided instructions for eligible subscribers seeking to redeem the offer.
According to MTN, customers should log into the MyMTN App and select the “Redeem Now” option on the anniversary banner.
Eligible subscribers can also access the offer through the MTN eShop and follow the instructions displayed.
MTN added that subscribers who received an SMS notification about the promotion could use the link contained in the official message to access the offer.
The company urged customers to rely only on information disseminated through its verified platforms when dealing with the anniversary promotion.
It also reminded eligible subscribers to redeem the data before the stated expiry time, noting that the 25GB bundle would only remain valid until 11:59pm on the specified expiration date.
The warning followed the circulation of various social media posts and links claiming to offer free MTN data to subscribers in celebration of the company’s 25th anniversary.
MTN therefore advised customers to steer clear of unauthorised websites and platforms requesting personal details, payments or other sensitive information in exchange for the purported free data.
Subscribers were encouraged to verify any anniversary-related offer through MTN’s official channels before clicking links or providing information.
