The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed for urgent medical assistance after revealing that their father is battling stage-four cancer.
The actor’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, made separate emotional appeals on Instagram on Monday, asking Nigerians, well-wishers and medical professionals with expertise in cancer treatment to help their father access further care.
Lima, in a video shared on her Instagram page, said the actor’s condition had deteriorated, claiming that hospitals were no longer willing to continue treating him.
She appealed to medical facilities and specialists who could take up the case, stressing that the family was seeking medical intervention and not financial assistance.
According to her, the family only became aware of the seriousness of Hassan’s condition about three weeks ago, despite the fact that his appearance had not initially suggested that he was seriously ill.
She said, “He has cancer and it’s really, really bad. And the hospitals are refusing to treat him. At least, please, give this man a chance.”
Lima also acknowledged the support the family had received from a relative during the difficult period, while pleading with anyone who could facilitate access to cancer treatment to come forward.
In a separate video, Kira disclosed that her father’s condition had reached stage four and claimed that doctors had informed the family that he could no longer receive chemotherapy at the hospital where he had been receiving treatment.
She appealed to anyone with access to cancer specialists or facilities capable of providing further treatment to contact the family.
Kira also expressed appreciation to Senator Yayi, whom she said had been assisting the family and paying the actor’s medical bills.
She reiterated that the family was not soliciting money, but was urgently seeking a medical solution that could give the actor another opportunity to fight the disease.
The emotional appeal saw Kira plead with cancer specialists and other medical professionals to intervene, saying she had never seen her father suffer so much.
She further disclosed that the actor had expressed fear of dying, adding that the situation had been particularly difficult for the family.
Hassan, 66, is one of the prominent figures in the Nigerian film industry, having built a career spanning more than four decades.
He has reportedly featured in over 300 films and remains a well-known face in Yoruba-language cinema.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Hassan’s management nor his family had issued a detailed official statement on the specific type of cancer he is battling, the hospital where he is receiving treatment or the current state of his medical care.
