Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has sparked reactions online after engaging in a playful exchange with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a visit by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to the minister in Abuja.
In a video shared on Instagram on Friday by @OfficialPrinceNwauzor, Davido could be seen jokingly claiming victory over Wike’s side, repeatedly telling the minister, “I won. I beat you guys.”
Wike, who was seated and dressed in a white shirt, responded with a smile, rejecting the singer’s claim.
“No, no,” the minister said.
Davido, however, persisted, saying, “I won! I beat you.”
“You beat us?” Wike asked, to which the singer replied, “I beat you.”
The exchange was followed by laughter from people in the room, with some voices heard saying, “I beg o.”
Davido eventually prostrated before the minister before embracing him, drawing cheers, applause and further laughter from those present.
The playful encounter has been widely linked to the outcome of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, in which Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, secured a second term.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission after polling 511,067 votes.
He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The governor won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji prevailed in the remaining 11.
Adeleke visited Wike in Abuja on Thursday as part of consultations following his re-election.
A photograph released by the minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showed the duo holding the governor’s certificate of return.
The visit came after Adeleke had earlier met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
Davido’s interaction with Wike has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with some users amused by the singer’s friendly disposition towards the minister, while others criticised what they perceived as cordiality with a political figure associated with the camp he opposed during the election.
Before the election, Davido was vocal in support of his uncle and repeatedly criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress over what he described as the alleged deployment of federal power in the election.
The singer also declared that he would not join the APC and appealed to former United States President Donald Trump to monitor developments surrounding the Osun election, expressing concerns about possible violence and disruption.
However, following Adeleke’s victory, Wike rejected allegations that the Federal Government manipulated the election.
The FCT minister argued that President Tinubu allowed the election to proceed freely, insisting that the outcome reflected the will of the electorate.
“The President called him… congratulating him, Adeleke. What does it tell you? If Tinubu did not allow a free and fair election, would they have won? No!” Wike said.
He added, “When you say force of the Federal Government, ask those who have survived it, though—people like me who survived Federal might. It’s not by saying, ‘they say, they say.’ It’s not true.”
