factoryOperatives of the Ogun State Police Command have uncovered an alleged baby factory in the Mowe area of the state, rescuing two pregnant women and four children from the facility.
The command also arrested six suspects in connection with the operation, including an attending nurse.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to him, the operation was conducted around 8am on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, Mowe, following intelligence gathered over suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the location.
Babaseyi identified the rescued pregnant women as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
He said the operatives also rescued four children, comprising two boys and two girls, during the raid.
The police spokesperson listed the arrested suspects as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
Babaseyi, however, said the whereabouts of a newborn baby could not immediately be established, leading to the arrest of the nurse to assist investigators in locating the infant.
He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The command said the investigation would focus on uncovering the extent of the alleged trafficking network, locating the missing newborn and determining the culpability of those arrested for possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to combat human trafficking, child trading and other serious crimes in the state.
Ojajuni also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible and timely information that could assist in preventing criminal activities.
He assured residents that the command would continue to adopt intelligence-led policing to safeguard lives and protect vulnerable members of the society.
The development comes months after operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State reportedly uncovered another alleged baby factory in the Okuju, Ilado area of Badagry.
During the April 17 operation, 18 pregnant women and 10 children were reportedly rescued, while two alleged operators of the facility were arrested.
