Tens of thousands of Peoples Democratic Party supporters on Wednesday thronged major streets across the three federal constituencies in Ogun Central Senatorial District as the party officially commenced its campaign for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The campaign train, led by the party’s governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, and other candidates, began its movement from the Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency, where residents gathered along the streets and balconies to welcome the delegation.
The crowd also received the deputy governorship candidate, Hajiya Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, senatorial candidate, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, and other party leaders during the flag-off at Agbado Station.
The campaign team later moved to Abeokuta North Federal Constituency, where the House of Representatives candidate, Arch. Dele Olaleye, was received by supporters at the NTA Junction, Totoro.
Residents and party faithful, many of whom had arrived hours earlier, sang solidarity songs and hailed the candidates as the campaign train passed through the area.
A similar reception was recorded in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, where supporters trooped out in their thousands to welcome the team and followed the convoy to the Ake Pavilion, venue of the Ogun Central campaign rally.
Addressing the gathering, Adebutu urged the people of Ogun Central to support Obasanjo, describing her as a tested and trusted politician whose previous representation of the district produced tangible benefits for the people.
Adebutu said the senatorial district needed a change from what he described as poor performance, urging voters to support the PDP for what he called “liberation.” He also charged party supporters to vote for the PDP on January 16, 2027, protect their votes and resist any attempt at intimidation.
Obasanjo, in her remarks, said she was encouraged by the reception she had received across the district, adding that residents had continued to identify projects and interventions associated with her previous tenure as their representative.
She promised to build on her past achievements and ensure that more residents benefited from democratic dividends if elected.
Some residents and party supporters who spoke during the rally pledged their support for the PDP candidates, promising to vote for the party and protect their ballots during the election.
“We will vote and stand by our votes for the PDP,” the supporters declared.
