A fire outbreak at a petrol filling station in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State was quickly brought under control on Tuesday night after a faulty generator reportedly triggered the blaze.
The incident occurred at Tukur Muhd Nig. Limited, located along Saya Saya Road, Rano, at about 9:20pm.
The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the agency, its Emergency Response Unit at the Rano Fire Station received a distress call from the manager of the filling station, Abubakar Umar, shortly after the fire started.
Firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene, where they found the blaze at the premises of the filling station.
The fire, which reportedly originated from a Mikano generator, spread to the rear tyres of a Canter vehicle parked at the facility, causing them to catch fire slightly.
However, the firefighters succeeded in putting out the flames before they could spread to other parts of the filling station, averting what could have been a more serious disaster.
The Fire Service attributed the incident to a fault in the generator and confirmed that no casualty was recorded.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, urged residents and business owners to remain vigilant and adopt necessary measures to prevent fire incidents.
He also stressed the importance of having functional fire extinguishers and other appropriate fire safety equipment at homes and business premises.
Anas urged the public to ensure that fire safety measures were strictly observed to minimise the risk of outbreaks and prevent avoidable loss of lives and property.
