At least eight people are feared trapped after a two-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, Kwara State, early Tuesday morning.
The building reportedly caved in around 5:30am, with eyewitnesses raising concerns that some of those inside may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
Among those feared trapped are said to be nursing mothers and children, heightening concerns over the rescue operation and the possibility of casualties.
The incident occurred in the PopoGiwa, Madalasi Zhogoro area, off Sjikobi Road, in Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.
Following the collapse, residents joined emergency responders in efforts to locate and rescue those believed to be trapped under the debris.
Personnel of the Kwara State Fire Service, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and officials of the State Emergency Management Agency were reportedly deployed to the scene.
As of the time of the report, rescue efforts were still ongoing, while attempts to obtain official comments from the police command and relevant authorities were unsuccessful.
The cause of the collapse had yet to be established, while authorities had also not confirmed the number of casualties or persons rescued from the building.
