The Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the bail application filed by the detained Director-General of the alleged fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Mathew Adeyemi.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in a ruling on Thursday, declined to grant Adeyemi bail pending the hearing of the police’s justification for his continued detention.
The judge held that the police and other respondents in the suit must be given an opportunity to respond to the application before the court could determine whether Adeyemi should be released.
The ruling followed an ex parte application argued by Adeyemi’s lawyer, Mohammed Abdulazeez.
However, the court granted the detainee unrestricted access to his legal representatives to enable him to prepare adequately for any charge that may be brought against him.
Adeyemi, who was arrested in Osun State about two months ago, is currently being held in police custody.
Through his lawyers, he had approached the court seeking several orders, including his release on bail and an end to his detention.
He also asked the court to permit him to obtain medical treatment from healthcare professionals of his choice, citing alleged ill health.
In addition, Adeyemi sought an order preventing the police and other security personnel from interrogating him or compelling him to make, adopt or sign any statement without the presence of a lawyer of his choice.
He further requested that he be allowed access to his legal representatives at reasonable hours for as long as he remained in custody.
In an affidavit filed before the court, his elder brother, Adeniyi Adebola, said the detainee could not appear before a Commissioner for Oaths because of his continued detention.
Meanwhile, the police are prosecuting Adeyemi in a separate criminal case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025 over allegations including forgery and impersonation.
The case is before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar.
Justice Umar had reportedly issued a warrant for Adeyemi’s arrest in July after he failed to appear for proceedings.
The court subsequently fixed September 30 for his arraignment.
Justice Egwuatu is expected to determine Adeyemi’s bail request after hearing from the police and the other parties involved in the suit.
