The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Adebiri over the alleged killing of a Benue State University graduate, Oje Ejeh, who worked as a housekeeper for a Lagos-based real estate firm.

Ejeh, popularly known as Mike, was reportedly attacked on August 26 at Bluestone Treasure Estate in the Mowe-Ofada area of Ogun State while preparing one of the properties under his care for inspection by prospective buyers.

The deceased’s brother, Alexander Oluji, disclosed the incident on Wednesday, explaining that Ejeh had gone to the estate to clean the property and wait for prospective clients who were expected to inspect it.

According to Oluji, while waiting for the visitors, Ejeh interacted briefly with the four-year-old son of a resident whose property was located beside the house he was managing.

He said the boy’s elder brother later informed their father that the child was playing with Ejeh.

Oluji explained that after Ejeh put the child down and entered the apartment to continue cleaning, the situation allegedly turned violent when he came back outside.

He said Adebiri allegedly picked up a bamboo stick and struck Ejeh on the head, causing him to collapse.

The victim was reportedly rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Oluji alleged that the suspect fled immediately after the attack as residents gathered at the scene.

He added that some angry residents attempted to set the suspect’s house ablaze but were restrained by others who pointed out that the property did not belong to him.

The deceased’s brother further disclosed that the suspect’s wife was initially arrested before Adebiri was eventually apprehended by the police.

He said Ejeh was well known in the estate because of his regular duties at the property and that the suspect’s wife was also familiar with him.

Oluji described his late brother as a hardworking young man who had recently graduated from Benue State University, where he studied French.

He said the family was demanding justice, particularly because Ejeh had reportedly gone to the estate in the course of performing his duties when the incident occurred.

Confirming the arrest, the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command was aware of the case and had commenced investigation.

Babaseyi stated that the suspect had been arrested while detectives were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and determine the appropriate legal action.

The latest incident adds to a series of violent crimes recently reported in parts of Ogun State, with residents and security agencies continuing to grapple with attacks linked to disputes and criminal activities.
