A 10-year-old girl allegedly abducted from home in Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State has been rescued after she was found abandoned in a neighbouring local government area.
The victim, identified as Ummi Jafar, was reportedly taken from her residence by unidentified persons before she was later discovered at Mararaba Mbilla in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of the state.
The Adamawa State Police Command said its operatives launched a search operation immediately after receiving a report of the incident.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday evening.
Nguroje said the girl was found abandoned during the search and was immediately taken to a medical facility for examination.
According to him, the child was subsequently discharged from the hospital and remained in police custody as investigations continued.
The police spokesman said detectives were working to unravel what led to the girl’s abduction and establish how she ended up in Mayo-Belwa.
He said the command was also intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
Nguroje assured residents that the investigation would be pursued to its logical conclusion, adding that anyone found to have participated in the crime would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The police urged members of the public with useful information about the incident to cooperate with investigators to assist in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
