A Delta State High Court has ordered the remand of a popular content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, better known as Odogwu Asaba, over the alleged rape and subsequent death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.
Ogbonna was remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Maximum Correctional Centre on Friday following the hearing and granting of an application seeking his continued detention in connection with the case.
The development was disclosed by counsel to the deceased’s family, Awele Ideal, who said the autopsy and toxicology reports conducted as part of the investigation had been released to the police.
According to Ideal, the reports, alongside other evidence gathered by investigators, had been incorporated into the case file prepared for prosecution.
She said she was handling the matter for Favour’s family on a pro bono basis and had also been providing financial and legal support to ensure that the case received proper attention.
Ideal said the legal process would now proceed under the supervision of the Delta State Ministry of Justice, involving the Attorney-General and Director of Public Prosecutions.
She further pledged to keep members of the public informed about developments in the case, stressing that justice remained a collective responsibility.
The remand was also confirmed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Media, Ossai Ovie Success, in a Facebook post on Friday.
Ossai said Ogbonna had been taken to the correctional facility following the court’s decision and would continue to be brought before the court as proceedings progress.
The case reportedly began after Favour was said to have travelled to Asaba following an invitation from Ogbonna for a content creation training programme advertised on social media.
She was subsequently alleged to have been taken to a hotel, where she accused the content creator of sexually assaulting her.
After returning home, Favour reportedly informed her parents about the alleged incident and recorded a video in which she narrated her account of what happened.
She later ingested a toxic substance and died.
Following a petition from the deceased’s family, the Delta State Commissioner of Police directed the Effurun Area Command to investigate the allegations, resulting in Ogbonna’s arrest.
The police investigation subsequently led to the release of the autopsy and toxicology reports, which have now been included in the evidence submitted for prosecution.
Ogbonna will remain in custody pending further proceedings in the case.
