The Ondo State Police Command has begun an investigation into the deaths of three children from the same family after their bodies were recovered from a farm in the Owena area of Akure, the state capital.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the incident happened on Friday, September 4, 2026.

The deceased were identified as Joshua Jonah and his twin brother, Jacob, both aged 11, as well as their five-year-old sister, Blessing. The siblings had reportedly gone to the farm with their father, Samuel Jonah.

According to the police, the children left the farm before their father and headed home. Their absence was noticed when their father later returned home, leading to a search for them.

The search effort ended tragically on Saturday when the three siblings were found dead beside a small river located within the farm.

The Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed investigators to conduct a comprehensive probe aimed at determining how the children died and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The command said efforts were ongoing to gather relevant information and establish the facts of the case, while the CP extended his sympathy to the bereaved family over the loss.

The police subsequently appealed to parents and guardians to pay closer attention to children, especially when they are around rivers, streams, ponds and other waterways, to reduce the risk of similar tragedies.
