A retired Superintendent of Police, Emmanuel Ahmed, has been reported missing after leaving his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to meet a cattle business associate.
Ahmed’s family said he disappeared on July 23, 2026, after receiving a telephone call from a Fulani man identified as Muhammed Saleh, who reportedly invited him to meet at Rounder, along the Ayetoro Road, before proceeding to Alamutu Market to sell two cows.
The retired officer’s son, Emmanuel Nehemiah, disclosed this on Sunday, saying his father informed his wife about the proposed cattle sale before setting out on his motorcycle.
Nehemiah said his father was last seen around Rounder, where he reportedly stopped at a police checkpoint to greet officers he knew.
He said the officers later told the family that they had seen Ahmed with Saleh on his Bajaj motorcycle, with the retired policeman reportedly carrying the man as they headed in the direction of Alamutu Market.
He said, “The officers confirmed that they saw my father with the Fulani man on his motorcycle. That was the last confirmed sighting of him.
“My father did not return home that night, and when we could not reach him, we became worried and began searching for him.”
According to Nehemiah, the family subsequently reported the disappearance to the police. The case was initially handled by the police division in the area before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the anti-kidnapping unit at Eleweran, Abeokuta.
He said the family obtained Saleh’s telephone number and attempted to establish his whereabouts, but both his number and those belonging to Ahmed had been switched off.
The son added that information gathered during the search indicated that Saleh’s movements and contacts extended to parts of Oyo State and included interactions with other Fulani men.
Nehemiah disclosed that the police had arrested two individuals in connection with the investigation and transferred them to the anti-kidnapping unit.
However, he expressed concern over the lack of substantial information on the progress of the investigation since the case was transferred.
He appealed to relevant authorities to intensify efforts to locate his father, stressing that the family’s immediate priority was to confirm that he was alive and safe.
The son added that his father’s health was another source of concern for the family.
“My father has hypertension, so we are particularly worried about his health and safety.
Our immediate concern is to know that he is alive and safe and then work towards bringing him back home,” he said.
Contacted for comment, the Ogun State Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Opeyemi Oluborode, confirmed the disappearance.
Oluborode said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, had directed the command’s anti-kidnapping unit to intensify efforts to locate the retired officer and reunite him with his family.
He said, “The command is aware of the incident. As soon as the matter was reported, the CP directed the anti-kidnapping unit to ensure that the man was rescued safely and reunited with his family.
“The command is not relenting in its efforts to ensure his safe return. We remain committed to protecting the lives and property of residents across the state.”
