Social commentator, Prince Isaac Fayose, has criticised Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s decision to pick Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.
Fayose, in a video posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, argued that Baba-Ahmed lacked the political strength required to significantly boost Obi’s presidential bid, alleging that he was unable to deliver even his home state during the election.
According to him, Obi made the wrong choice by settling for Baba-Ahmed as his vice-presidential candidate in 2022.
Fayose also claimed that Obi’s current running mate was more politically relevant, popular and influential, particularly in the northern part of the country.
He said, “Datti Ahmed is a failure. Nobody knew this man before Peter Obi picked him in 2022 as his running mate.”
The commentator further alleged that Baba-Ahmed’s recent criticism of Obi was linked to the former Anambra State governor’s reported decision to favour former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Fayose described Baba-Ahmed as jealous and accused him of being unhappy that Obi did not select him again as running mate.
He said the choice of Baba-Ahmed in 2023 had been a political miscalculation, insisting that Obi’s current running mate was better positioned to contribute to his 2027 presidential ambition.
“You are a waste of time, Mr Datti Ahmed,” Fayose added.
