The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Jabir Yusuf, for allegedly shooting his neighbour, Hassan Mohamed, to death in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Monday at Rinjin Gura village, Zalau Ward, where Yusuf allegedly fired a Dane gun at Mohamed, hitting him in the neck.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the police received information about the shooting through a resident of Zalau Ward, prompting officers attached to the Gumau Division to mobilise to the scene.
The victim was reportedly taken to Toro General Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by the attending physician.
His remains were subsequently released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The police said the suspect was arrested and the Dane gun allegedly used in the attack was recovered.
“The suspect has been apprehended, and the Dane gun recovered as exhibit.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and possible prosecution,” the command stated.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, ordered a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Aliyu also warned residents against unlawful possession and careless handling of firearms, stressing that anyone found violating the law would be made to face the consequences.
