A 20-year-old woman has recounted the terrifying experience of being attacked and raped by a 24-year-old Nigerian man after he offered to accompany her home from a night out in Wrexham, Wales.
The woman, whose identity has been withheld, said she feared she would be killed after Gift Oladele dragged her into a secluded wooded area and attacked her in the early hours of September 7, 2025.
Oladele was sentenced to 17 years in prison in April after he was convicted of rape and sexual assault at Mold Crown Court. He was also handed an additional eight-year extended licence period.
Recounting the incident in an account published by the Daily Mail, the victim said Oladele approached her while she was walking home and claimed he was heading in the same direction before offering to accompany her.
She said the situation changed after they reached an isolated location, where Oladele allegedly grabbed her over the mouth and forced her into a wooded area.
“He was a lot bigger than I was – I tried pushing him away, but he overpowered me,” she said.
The victim said she went into what she described as “survival mode” after the assailant attacked her and asked whether it was her first experience of rape.
She said, “It was either I do what he says, and I get home to my mum, or he is going to kill me.”
According to her, Oladele struck her repeatedly on the head and left bruises on her body before abandoning her.
She also alleged that after the attack, he threatened to locate her if she reported the incident and warned that he could take and circulate photographs of her online.
Despite the threats, the woman said she immediately told her parents what had happened after returning home at about 3.30am, prompting her father to contact the police.
Oladele was arrested the following day at his cousin’s residence in Wrexham. Investigators reportedly recovered a mobile phone he had attempted to conceal, with police finding searches connected to sexual attacks.
During his trial, Oladele denied the allegations and claimed that the sexual activity was consensual. The court, however, convicted him of rape and sexual assault.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a lifetime restraining order to protect the victim.
The case also revealed that Oladele was already on bail over another rape allegation in Manchester dating back to November 2024. He had previously served a prison sentence for a sexually motivated attack in 2022.
Oladele, a Nigerian citizen born in Italy, had also previously challenged an attempt by UK authorities to deport him to Nigeria on human rights grounds. An immigration tribunal ruled in his favour, while subsequent appeals by the Home Office were unsuccessful.
Reacting to the case, Wrexham Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst described Oladele as a “dangerous predator” and commended the victim for reporting the attack and enduring the trial process.
The victim, however, said the incident continued to affect her emotionally and physically, adding that there were periods when she struggled to eat and experienced severe emotional distress.
