An eatery worker identified as Jeffrey has been shot dead by suspected cultists in Oghara, Otefe area of Delta State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night while Jeffrey and his colleague, Daniel, were returning home from work on a motorcycle.
A police source who spoke with PUNCH Metro on Monday said Jeffrey sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and later died, while Daniel survived and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The source said, “We received a report that a young man named Jeffrey was killed while heading home from work alongside his friend in Oghara. His friend was also injured in the process.
“Efforts were made to save Jeffrey, but he did not survive the gunshot injury. His corpse has been deposited in the morgue.”
An anti-cultism advocacy platform, Naija Confra, also reported the incident in a post seen by PUNCH Metro on Monday.
According to the platform, the victims were attacked between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday, September 12, 2026, while riding home from the eatery where they worked in Otefe.
It identified one of the victims as Jeffrey and said Daniel, who survived the attack, graduated from Delta State Polytechnic earlier this year.
The platform added that Daniel was taken to a hospital outside the area for treatment because some hospitals close to the scene were reportedly on strike.
It further stated that Jeffrey and Daniel lived in apartments located close to each other.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for his reaction as calls to his telephone were unanswered. A text message sent to him had also not received a response as of the time of filing this report.
