The mutilated body of an unidentified woman has been discovered near a stream inside the Jos Wildlife Park Forest Reserve in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The corpse was reportedly found around 9:30am on Thursday after security operatives received a distress call concerning the woman.

Sources familiar with the incident told our correspondent that the woman had earlier been declared missing by her family after she failed to return home.

The family was said to have launched a search for her, which eventually led to the discovery of her body near a stream within the forest reserve.

The sources said the deceased had injuries on her face and arm, which appeared to have been inflicted with a machete.

A staff member of the park, who confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly, said security operatives were alerted immediately after the body was discovered.

“We woke up and discovered the body and immediately contacted the security operatives,” the staff member said.

He added, “The security personnel came to the scene and commenced their initial assessment while efforts were made to establish what happened.”

Security authorities have reportedly commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and determine whether criminal elements were involved.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Plateau State Police Command spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, and other security agencies were unsuccessful.
