A woman asks ex-husband to pay N50,000 monthly for child’s upkeep woman, Fatima Jibril, has asked a Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, to order her ex-husband, Muhammad Mahmud, to pay N50,000 monthly for the upkeep of their two-year-old child.
Jibril also sought custody of the child, telling the court that the child had been taken to the father’s mother since the couple’s marriage was dissolved in January.
The complainant’s lawyer, Abubakar Jibril, told the court that his client wanted the child to remain in her custody while the father should be responsible for the child’s education, healthcare and other basic needs.
“We want the child to continue to be in the mother’s custody while the father takes full responsibility for school fees, health and general well-being,” the lawyer told the court.
However, Mahmud, through his counsel, Mahmud Ibrahim, said he could only afford N25,000 as monthly maintenance for the child.
The judge, Malam Mu’awiyya Shehu, asked the woman whether she was willing to accept the N25,000 proposed by her former husband.
The complainant agreed to the amount.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter until September 22, 2026, for ruling.
