Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has pledged to spend his holidays in Nigeria if elected in 2027, saying he would use the periods to visit parts of the country facing security challenges.
Obi made the promise on Saturday at a town hall meeting in Kaduna, where he spoke about his plans to strengthen the country’s security system.
The former Anambra State governor said he would visit states such as Zamfara, Borno, Kano, Oyo and Ondo during his holidays instead of travelling abroad.
He said, “In four years, I will never take holidays outside this country. If I take a whole day, it will be in Zamfara, Borno, Kano. It will be in Oyo, in Ondo. That is what it should be.”
Obi said Nigerians should be able to travel freely across the country without fear of abduction, recalling that he previously travelled by road from Lagos to Kaduna.
He expressed confidence that security conditions could be improved, saying Nigerians should no longer have to question whether it was safe for someone to travel to another part of the country.
The NDC candidate also promised to pursue policies that would expand opportunities for children regardless of their family or social background.
He said his administration would work towards a country where every child could receive education and attain success without relying on personal connections.
