A yet-to-be-identified woman has been crushed to death by a truck after she reportedly fell from a motorcycle along the Agbara-Lusada Expressway in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The fatal crash occurred around 7pm on Saturday near Cashier Bus Stop along the highway, according to an eyewitness, Kunle, who spoke about the incident on Sunday.
Kunle said the motorcycle was attempting to overtake the truck when the woman, who was a passenger, fell onto the road and was run over by the truck.
He said, “The accident involved a woman who was a passenger on a motorcycle. The motorcycle tried to overtake the truck, and in the process, the passenger, who was a woman, fell and was crushed by the truck.”
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with our correspondent.
Akinbiyi said the crash involved a white Howo truck with registration number T-34611LA and two motorcycles whose registration numbers were not displayed.
He explained that preliminary accounts from eyewitnesses indicated that the crash occurred when one of the motorcycle riders allegedly attempted an improper overtaking manoeuvre, causing the female passenger to fall under the truck.
“The RTA/RTC was caused by wrong overtaking on the part of the Okada rider, which led one of the Okada passengers to fall under the truck, which claimed her life,” Akinbiyi said.
According to him, five people were involved in the crash, comprising three males and two females, while two victims, a male and a female, sustained injuries.
He added that the injured victims were taken to a hospital by a good Samaritan before TRACE officials arrived at the scene.
Akinbiyi said the deceased’s remains were later taken away by her family, while the truck was moved to police custody for further investigation.
He added that TRACE officials and PAPA OSCAR responders attended to the scene and worked to restore normal traffic flow along the expressway.
The incident comes days after four people were reportedly killed in another crash around Straight Gate School, Ipara Remo, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
