The Secretary-General of Afenifere, Chief Sola Ebiseni, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office, while moving closer to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Ondo State Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday after Ebiseni met Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa at the Government House in Akure.
Ebiseni, who was accompanied to the meeting by supporters, had previously been a chieftain of the Labour Party and served as the South-West Coordinator of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election.
Aiyedatiwa assured Ebiseni and his supporters that they would be accommodated within the APC campaign structure, saying the presence of the party’s state chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, at the meeting was to facilitate their integration.
The governor said Ebiseni’s political experience and activities across Ondo, coupled with his leadership position in Afenifere and other socio-cultural organisations, could contribute to the party’s campaign efforts.
He also pointed to Ebiseni’s previous service as chairman of the old Ilaje-Ese-Odo Local Government and his tenure as a commissioner in the state as part of the experience he could bring to the political process.
Explaining his support for Tinubu, Ebiseni said continuity was necessary to allow the President’s existing policies to achieve their intended objectives. He argued that replacing the administration would mean introducing new policies that might require another four years to mature.
Ebiseni also highlighted the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as a major project for the Ilaje coastal communities and expressing his commitment to supporting its implementation, particularly the proper alignment of the road through Ondo State.
He further cited proposed State Police and the expansion of Nigerian Army divisions as initiatives he said required time to produce results.
