Two chieftains of the African Democratic Congress in Ekiti State have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly engaging in a fight over the party’s state chairmanship.
The defendants, Dr Bamidele Ekundayo, 73, and Ilesanmi Omolayo, 45, were accused of unlawfully threatening violence while laying claim to the leadership position.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the alleged offence on or before October 2, 2026, in Ado-Ekiti, within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendants engaged in a dispute and fighting over who should occupy the ADC chairmanship position in the state, thereby threatening public peace.
He said the alleged offences contravened Sections 181(1)(d), 69 and 421 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State.
Counsel for the defendants, Oluwasola Fapohunda, urged the court to grant his clients bail, assuring that they would appear whenever required and would not abscond.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The court adjourned the case until October 30, 2026, for hearing.
